Fantastic turnout for Midnight Walk 2018

Tuesday, 23 October 2018 at 8.00am

At the start line - and they're off!

On Friday 28th September over 500 ladies took the streets around Woking to take part in the eight mile Midnight Walk 2018.

The atmosphere was amazing as ladies of all ages gathered at Woking Leisure Centre ready to take on the challenge, walking together to remember loved ones and to raise vital funds for the hospice. The room was filled with glow-in-the dark t-shirts and flashing bunny ears as the lights were dimmed to observe a minute's silence before the walk began at 10pm.

Trident Honda sponsored this year's event and they also sponsor the annual Dragon Boat Race that takes place at Goldsworth Park Lake just around the corner from Woking Hospice.

The Woking Rotary Swimathon 2018

Woking Rotary Club held their 11th annual Swimathon event at the Woking Pool in the Park on Sunday 14th October 2018.

The Swimathon was opened by Cllr Will Forster, Mayor of Woking, and Rotary President Richard Sanderson early on Sunday morning and teams of 6 people arrived throughout the day to make their charitable contribution swimming as many pool lengths as they could over 55 minutes.

Trident Honda has been the main sponsor for the event every year since its inception 11 years ago. This year we also had two teams competing in the event - The Trident Otters: one team comprising Louise Vincer, Erin Dethick, Finn Dethick and Peter Vincer, managed 110 lengths of the pool; the other team comprising Chris Monk, Mathew Brough, Justin Creber and Charlotte Cawser, managed 114 lengths of the pool.

The Trident Otters managed to raise £265 between them in sponsorship for the event. Our team captain, Mary Spicer, reports:

Downslink Challenge hands cheque for £10,294.83 to Woking & Sam Beare Hospices

The Downslink Challenge, at the beginning of June, helped to raise more than £20,000 for the White Lodge Centre and Woking & Sam Beare Hospices.

This amazing event, sponsored by Trident Honda, started at the Garibaldi pub and travelled all the way to Brighton and back - a distance of 102 miles. Cyclists also had the option of starting in Brighton, thereby reducing the distance to a still amazing 51 miles. But some of the longer-distance riders extended it to a staggering 122 miles, by following a diversion on the way home.

In loving memory of Michael Roberts, Woking & Sam Beare Hospices is delighted to announce that one of its 20 bedrooms at newly built Woking Hospice will be named after the late Mr Roberts, whose family have supported the Surrey-wide hospice for over two-and-a-half decades.

Held on Wednesday 20th June, the hospice held a special room naming ceremony to mark the extraordinary life of Michael Roberts, who was the father of Mark, Richard, Christopher and James Roberts and founder of Trident Honda, the family run community car dealership in Ottershaw which has been a corporate partner of Woking & Sam Beare Hospices since 1992. Also in attendance for the naming of the room were Terry Smith and Tony Usher representing Woking Rotary Club who over the years have been hugely supportive of the hospices and have now funded the hoist for Room 20.

A Montage of the 2018 Trident Otters

Congratulations to all the teams who took part in the 6th annual Dragon Boat Races on Sunday 3 June at Goldsworth Park Lake, Woking.

Sponsored by Trident Honda, the event saw 10 teams take to the water in brightly painted, dragon-headed boats on an extremely hot and blisteringly sunny day. The event provided a colourful spectacle for all our visitors during the day, who came to the lakeside to cheer on the rowers and to enjoy the family fun day activities on the bank too.

Our team, the Trident Otters, won its first race convincingly, won its second race against the Hospice Heroes with a photo finish, before being finally beaten in the third race, despite achieving our best time of the day and possible to date!

The worthy winners, Team Seymours from Seymours' Estate Agents, crossed the lake in a very speedy 57.94 seconds. Second and third places were won by two teams from Natta Building Company, the 'Average Team' and the 'Dream Team'.
