The Woking Rotary Swimathon 2018

Woking Rotary Club held their 11th annual Swimathon event at the Woking Pool in the Park on Sunday 14th October 2018.

The Swimathon was opened by Cllr Will Forster, Mayor of Woking, and Rotary President Richard Sanderson early on Sunday morning and teams of 6 people arrived throughout the day to make their charitable contribution swimming as many pool lengths as they could over 55 minutes.

Trident Honda has been the main sponsor for the event every year since its inception 11 years ago. This year we also had two teams competing in the event - The Trident Otters: one team comprising Louise Vincer, Erin Dethick, Finn Dethick and Peter Vincer, managed 110 lengths of the pool; the other team comprising Chris Monk, Mathew Brough, Justin Creber and Charlotte Cawser, managed 114 lengths of the pool.

The Trident Otters managed to raise £265 between them in sponsorship for the event. Our team captain, Mary Spicer, reports:

Woking Rotary Swimathon hits its tenth year

Sunday saw the return of the Woking Rotary Swimathon to the Woking Pool in the Park for its 10th Year, once again sponsored by Trident Honda in Ottershaw. The event was inaugurated by the Mayor of Woking, Councillor Graham Cundy, who very kindly started the event and handed out the first round of medals.

The event, which has been sponsored by Trident since it was started in 2008, has so far raised over £110,000 for local Woking charities.

Richard Roberts, Managing Director of Trident, said:

It's great to be involved with the Woking Swimathon again this year. It is always a fabulous day, that is fun for all those that take part, whilst raising much needed funds for some great local causes.

Woking Rotary Swimathon 2013

We realise that some months has passed since the 6th Woking Rotary Swimathon on Sunday 13 October 2013, without our having published details.

More than 270 people took part, with 48 teams of up to six, sponsored by family and friends to swim for 55 minutes each hour between 9am and 7pm at the Pool in the Park with the aim to raise up to £9000 for local charities. Each swimmer averaged between 10 and 20 lengths.

The annual event was started by the Mayor of Woking, Anne Roberts, and attended by Richard Roberts, Managing Director of Trident Honda who again sponsored this year's Swimathon. More than 35 volunteers helped out during the day.

On behalf of Rotary Club of Woking, the Managing Director of Trident Honda, Richard Roberts, and Rotary President Michael Watson, presented cheques totalling £13,000 to five local charities from the proceeds of generous public donations to last year's Swimathon 2012 sponsored teams event. Trident Honda, who have sponsored this annual fundraising event since its inception in 2008, has raised £62,000 over the last 5 years benefiting 19 local charities in Woking.

Richard Roberts, who has been lead sponsor for this fundraising event since its inception in 2008 was specially honoured in a 'This Is Your Life' presentation of his outstanding lifelong commitment to actively supporting numerous local charities and voluntary groups benefiting the whole spectrum of community life in Woking. Mr Roberts was presented with Rotary's highest international honour for exceptional public service, The Paul Harris Fellow Award.

Trident and the Woking Swimathon

Once again Trident staff took part in the Woking Rotary's Swimathon, held on Sunday 14 Oct 2012 at the Pool in the Park in Woking. Team leader, Mary Spicer, writes:

The Swimathon was great fun and the Trident Turtles did 100 lengths between them, raising £356 in sponsorship. The Trident Turtles have now retreated into their shells for another year!

The good causes being supported this year are The Mayor's Charity Appeal, Woking & Sam Beare Hospices, Service by Emergency Rides, Canine Partners, Meath School, Riding for the Disabled Association (RDA), The Park School, The Sanctuary and other local charitable needs.

Team Trident Complete the Swimathon

Team Trident once again took part in the Woking Swimathon on Sunday 23rd October, swimming 115 lengths (comfortably beating the 100 lengths swum last year!) and raising over £250 for local charities.

The annual event was started by the Mayor of Woking, Councillor Ken Howard, and attended by Stephen Henderson, Dealer Principal here at Trident Honda. Trident Honda were delighted to once again sponsor this year's Swimathon.

The past three Swimathons have raised more than £40,000. Money raised this year will be donated to a number of local charities including the Woking & Sam Beare Hospices, SERV (Surrey), Fremantles School, Let's Read, Home-Start Woking, The Tommy D Project, Woking Community First Responders, and the 2011/12 Mayor's Charities Appeal - CHASE Children's Hospice, Surrey Young Carers and Woking Community Action Fund.

Preparation for the fourth annual Woking Swimathon is well underway and Trident Honda will sponsoring the event once again.

This charity event, organised by The Rotary Club of Woking, is taking place on Sunday 23rd October 2011 at Woking Pool in the Park from 9am - 6pm.

Everyone is invited to take part and previous teams have represented charities, families, friendship groups, churches, businesses and offices, shops, Scouts and Guides, Cubs and Brownies, swimming clubs, health clubs, schools and colleges.
