A victorious Jenson Button stands next to his winning Type R

In the fifth and final of a planned series of lap record attempts across Europe in 2018, Honda has set a new 2min 10.19sec record for a front wheel drive production car at the Hungaroring GP circuit in Hungary. The Civic Type R was driven by Formula One World Champion and current NSX Super GT driver, Jenson Button. The track holds special significance for Button, as the circuit where he won the first Grand Prix of his career with Honda in 2006.

The Hungaroring circuit is a twisty and narrow 4.38km track with 180-degree corners and a complex chicane, making it one of the more technical tracks in Europe. However, this proved to be a perfect demonstration of the Civic Type R's Adaptive Damper System, delivering a firmer, flatter ride and greater agility for high-performance handling around the tight circuit. Alongside the suspension system, the unique steering setup and improved aerodynamics enabled Button to secure the lap record for Honda at the Grand Prix circuit.

Speaking about the lap record, Jenson Button said:

A victorious Tiago Monteiro stands beside his winning Type R

Following three successes in the Honda Civic 'Type R Challenge 2018' at the Magny-Cours, Spa-Francorchamps and Silverstone circuits, Honda has set a new 2min 01.84sec record for a front-wheel drive production car in the Civic Type R at the Estoril circuit in Portugal. The high-performance hatchback was driven by Honda WTCR driver, Tiago Monteiro.

The iconic Estoril track is 4.2km long with two hairpins, a difficult chicane and a very long main straight, which means drivers experience an unusually broad range of speeds over one lap. It therefore rewards cars with a great breadth of ability, that combine fast acceleration with exceptional handling. The Civic Type R proved to be superbly matched to the circuit, with its 320 PS VTEC TURBO engine providing outstanding pace, and its sophisticated suspension and steering systems delivering fast, stable handling, as Monteiro powered his way to a new front-wheel drive lap record.

Speaking about the benchmark time, Tiago Monteiro said:

The Type R at home on the racetrack

The British-built Honda Civic Type R has taken home another trophy, this time at the 2018 Auto Express Awards, taking the title of Best Hot Hatch for the second year running.

Widely acknowledged as one of the most prestigious awards of the car industry, the annual Auto Express New Car Awards are given to the cars that set the highest standards in their class each year. These awards are highly important for both carmakers and customers because of the authority and integrity of the Auto Express brand.

Built in Swindon, the Civic Type R shares the same fundamentals as the new Civic hatchback and has been engineered from the ground up to deliver the most rewarding drive in the hot-hatch segment - both on road and on the racetrack.

Phil Webb, Head of Car at Honda UK, commented:

A victorious Matt Neal stands beside his winning Type R

Following two successes in the Honda Civic 'Type R Challenge 2018' at the Magny-Cours and Spa-Francorchamps circuits the high-performance hatchback has set a new 2mins 31.32secs lap record for a front-wheel drive production car at the Silverstone GP circuit in the UK, beating the benchmark set by the previous generation Civic Type R in a similar challenge in 2016.

The Type R was piloted by three-time British Touring Car Championship winner Matt Neal, who is currently campaigning a Honda Civic Type R in the 2018 BTCC with Halfords Yuasa Racing.

The Silverstone GP circuit is a thrilling 5.89km track featuring fast straights and high-speed corners, combined with more technical sections that demand pinpoint placement of the car. With tremendous outright pace from its optimised 2.0-litre VTEC TURBO engine, the Civic Type R provided blistering performance to enable Neal to make the most of the straights and accelerate quickly out of the sweeping corners.

Bertrand Baguette beside his Type R

After setting a lap record at the Magny-Cours GP circuit just last month, the high-performance hatchback has set a new lap record front-wheel drive production lap record of 2mins 53.72secs at Spa-Francorchamps in Belgium. The Type R was piloted by former FIA WEC LMP2 class World Champion, Bertrand Baguette, who is currently racing a Honda NSX-GT in the Super GT series with Nakajima Racing.

The Spa-Francorchamps circuit is one of the longest tracks in the racing seasons of many categories at 7.004km, and features very fast straights and high-speed corners, along with more technical low-speed sections and significant elevation changes. The class-leading acceleration and outright speed of the Civic Type R's 2.0-litre VTEC TURBO engine, enabled Baguette to exploit the long straights and accelerate quickly out of the sweeping corners.

Aerodynamic performance was also critical to the lap time, and Civic Type R's finely-honed design, with a smooth underbody, front air curtain, slim rear wing and vortex generators contributed to superior levels of high-speed stability. In the car's +R mode, the Adaptive Damper System produces a firm and flat ride ideal for track driving, enabling more speed to be carried through Spa-Francorchamps' famous Eau Rouge and Kemmel Straight sections.

Speaking about the Type R and the way it handles, Bertrand Baguette said:

Esteban Guerrieri stands beside his Civic Type R

Following the debut of the Honda Civic 'Type R Challenge 2018' car at the Geneva Motor Show, the high-performance hatchback has set a new 2mins 1.51secs lap record for a front-wheel drive production car at the Magny-Cours GP circuit in France. The Type R was piloted by WTCR driver Esteban Guerrieri, who is contesting the 2018 FIA World Touring Car Cup in a Honda Civic TCR with Münnich Motorsport.

The Magny-Cours GP circuit is a 4.4km track with a mix of slow hairpins, high-speed chicane sections and long straights. Civic Type R's optimised 2.0-litre VTEC TURBO engine produces 320 PS and 400Nm of torque, and its muscular performance helped Guerrieri to exploit the character of the track. The car's comprehensive aerodynamic package, with a best-in-class balance between lift and drag, was perfectly suited to the French circuit. In the Civic Type R's +R mode, the Adaptive Damper System produces a firmer, flatter ride and greater agility for high-performance handling.

Speaking about the lap record, Esteban Guerrieri said:
